JONESBORO, Ark. - Arkansas State's Drew Rogers scored on an error in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift ASU to an 11-10 win over the Samford baseball team Saturday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.

For Samford (8-10) in the game, Garrett Rice went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI. Bear Burnett went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI. Parker Gargis was 3-for-5 at the plate for the Bulldogs. Stephen Artz pitched the final 2.2 innings, giving up one earned run on two hits to take the loss on the mound. Samford, as a team, committed six errors in the game.

Arkansas State (11-9) was led by Tyler Doke, going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Brett Kinning went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Josh Yates went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Indians. Tim Egart pitched 1.1 innings to earn the win for ASU.

With Samford leading, 10-9, in the bottom of the ninth inning, Yates led the inning off with a solo home run to tie the score and send the game into extra innings.

Samford struck first with one run in the top of the first inning. Gargis hit a two-out double, and Drew Reagan singled to left field to drive Gargis in for a 1-0 Samford lead.

Arkansas State came back with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead. After Kinning walked with two outs, Yates tripled to center field to drive in Kinning to tie the score at 1-1. The go-ahead run was scored when Michael Williams, Jr. singled to right field to drive in Yates.

The Indians plated three more runs, all unearned, in the bottom of the second inning to increase their lead to 5-1. Doke singled to drive in Rogers for the first run of the inning. Kinning then singled to drive in Jeremey Lyons and Doke for a 5-1 Indian lead.

 

 

Samford plated four runs in the fourth inning to tie the score at 5-5. Trey Moody singled to drive in Luke Peavy and Rice to make the score 5-3. Burnett then hit his first home run of the season to right-center field with Moody on base to tie the score.

ASU took the lead back with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 6-5. Doke singled up the middle to drive in Lyons to give the Indians the lead.

Samford took the lead with two runs in the fifth inning. Rice hit his first home run of the season with Peavy on base to give the Bulldogs a 7-6 lead.

ASU plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-7 lead. Guy Brown singled to drive in Rogers for the first run of the inning. Kinning then singled to drive in Brown for an 8-7 ASU lead. The final run of the inning was scored when Kinning scored on a Samford error.

Samford came back again with three runs in the seventh inning to retake the lead at 10-9. Rice singled to drive in Kyle Krebs for the first run of the inning. Burnett then hit his second home run of the game with Peavy on base to make the score 10-9.
