Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Chandler Tidwell pitched the complete game, giving up one run on just four hits to lead the Samford baseball team to a 2-1 win over Memphis Tuesday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

With the win, Samford improves to 6-7 on the season, while Memphis drops to 7-2 with the loss. The game ended a seven-game winning streak for the Tigers.

Tidwell (2-1), in the second complete-game performance of his Samford career, struck out four batters while walking just one. Tidwell's performance was the first complete game pitching effort for Samford this season.

Samford was led at the plate by Kyle Krebs, who homered for the second game in a row. Michael Marseco, Parker Gargis and Luke Peavy each had a hit for the Bulldogs.

Memphis starting pitcher Garrett Hachtel (0-1) pitched 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on three hits to take the loss in his collegiate debut. Matt Yokley pitched the final 2.0 innings for the Tigers, surrendering just one hit.

At the plate, the Tigers were led by Joey Lieberman, going 2-for-4. Adam Amar drove in the Tigers' lone run of the game.

Samford put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Krebs led the inning off with a home run for the second game in a row to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

Memphis plated a run in the top of the third inning to tie the score at 1-1. Amar hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Alex Fennell from third base to tie the game.

The game-winning run was scored in the bottom of the sixth inning. Marseco scored when Gargis reached base on a Memphis error for a 2-1 Samford lead.

Samford and Memphis will play again Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. Fans can follow the game on the internet via GameTracker at www.samfordsports.com.
