Baseball Falls In Middle Game At Troy, 11-3

TROY, Ala. - The Samford baseball team gave up six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on its way to an 11-3 loss in the second game of a three-game series against Troy at Riddle-Pace Field on Saturday. Troy (3-2) jumped on top first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Samford (1-2) came back with two runs in the top of the third inning to tie the score at 2-2. Troy took a 5-2 lead with three runs in the fifth inning. Samford cut the lead to 5-3 in the top of the eighth before Troy broke the game open the bottom half of the inning. For Samford, Garrett Rice was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Matt Alling went 1-for-4 with an RBI for the Bulldogs. Stephen Artz pitched the first 5.0 innings for Samford, giving up five runs on seven hits to take the loss. Troy was led by Chase Amis, who was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Adam Godwin went 3-for-4 for the Trojans. Brent Adcock picked up the win for the Trojans. Adcock pitched 6.0 innings, surrendering two runs on three hits to get the win. Samford and Troy will conclude their three-game series with a game on Sunday. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field.
