Baseball Drops First Game Of Series At Troy, 9-5

TROY, Ala. - The Samford baseball team dropped the first game of its series at Troy, 9-5, Friday night at Riddle-Pace Field.

"It was a game where we just didn't make many plays," Samford head coach Casey Dunn said. "We just didn't get hits in the key situations."

Samford drops to 1-1 on the season with the loss, while Troy improves to 2-2 with the win.

Samford was led by Matt Alling, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Garrett Rice and Bear Burnett drove in a run apiece for the Bulldogs. Scott Fowler took the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs, pitching 2.2 innings, giving up four runs on four hits.

For Troy, Clint Robinson and Nick Smith each went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Chase Amis was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Trojans. Landon Brazell picked up the win for Troy, pitching 6.0 innings, surrendering three runs on four hits.

The teams will play the second game of the series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The third game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
