Cross Country To Make Up Ole Miss Invitational At Spain Park
Oct. 9, 2009
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Samford University cross country team will make up its meet with Ole Miss this Saturday, Oct. 10, at Spain Park in Birmingham, Ala. The two teams were originally supposed to compete in Oxford, Miss., on Sept. 26, but the meet was cancelled due to inclement weather. The Bulldogs have not competed since Sept. 18 at the Crimson Classic. The next weekend, Samford was supposed to run in the Ole Miss Invitational, but it was called off because of severe thunderstorms. "This should be a good chance to get some more work in before the Conference Championship," Samford head coach Rod Tiffin said. "It has been a while since we have raced so it will be good to get back out and compete. The athletes are looking forward to running at Spain Park, being that it is close by and Samford's Family Weekend." The Samford women are led by sophomore Andrea Seccafien who finished in the top spot for the Bulldogs in the first two meets of the season. On opening weekend, Seccafien took fourth place at the Memphis Twilight and followed that up with a 22nd place finish against tough competition at the Crimson Classic. Blaise Carie has steadily led the men so far this season. He opened the season with a 16th place finish at the Memphis Twilight followed by a 66th place finish in the Crimson Classic. The women will run a 3K race at 7:15 a.m., and the men will run a 5K race at 8:30 a.m. A full recap and result will be available on www.samfordsports.com upon the completion of the meet.
