Samford's Brewer Wins A-Sun Runner-of-the-Week

Sept. 17, 2002

MACON, Ga.- Michelle Brewer was named the Atlantic Sun Women's Cross-Country Runner-of-the-Week, the conference office announced late Monday afternoon. The freshman ran a time of 19:30 for a 17th-place finish at the NCAA South Regional Preview last week in Knoxville, Tenn.

Brewer, competing in just her second collegiate meet, led the Bulldogs to a fourth-place finish at the event. Samford finished ahead of Georgia State and Belmont, the other A-Sun schools in the meet which was held on the same course that will host the NCAA South Regional meet on Nov. 16.

"I am pleased with the start that Michelle is off to so far," coach Glenn McWaters said. "She has lots of potential and if she continues her improvement this is just the beginning for her career."

Brewer will compete next at the Great American Collegiate Cross-Country Festival in Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 27.
