BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford Cross Country team will open its season at the UTC Cross Country Invitational hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Friday. The meet will take place at Moccasin Bend on UTC's campus.

Schools participating in the meet include Auburn, Chattanooga, Columbus State, Georgia Tech, South Alabama and Tennessee's men's team. The women's two-mile race begins at 6:20 p.m., and the men's 5K race begins at 6:40 p.m.

The Bulldogs look to build on a 2000 season which saw the men's team win the TAAC championship and the women's team finish second. Both teams ended their seasons at the NCAA South Regional in Tuscaloosa.

After the UTC opener, Samford's next meet will be Sept. 15. The Bulldogs will run in the Alabama Invitational, hosted by the University of Alabama.
