Men's Cross Country Earns National All-Academic Honors

April 28, 2003

Samford's men's cross-country team has earned All-Academic, with distinction honors for the fall 2002 semester. The Bulldogs' 3.274 GPA was the 18th best among NCAA Division I men's cross-country teams.

To qualify for the NCAA's Academic All-American honors, a team must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA. To qualify for "With Distinction" consideration, a team must have a cumulative 3.25 GPA.

The Bulldogs also placed several team members on the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team. Brett Baddorf, Bryan Baddorf, Clay DeMore, Jonathan Jeff, Mark McBride, Ricky McLain, Andrew Middleton, Brad Polley and Lee Wright each earned at least a 3.0 GPA for the fall 2002 semester.

The team demonstrated its well-rounded success with a second-place showing at the A-Sun Championships in November.

On April 10, the NCAA announced Samford's women's cross country team also received All-Academic, with distinction, honors. The Bulldogs finished with a 3.64 cumulative GPA, the seventh-best in Division I, for the first semester of 2002.
