Cross Country finishes 10th, 14th at South Regional

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - - Samford placed two runners in the top 30 on the men's side to finish 10th while the women's team finished 14th at the NCAA South Regional hosted by the UAB at the Harry Pritchard Golf Course Saturday. Andrew Spear and Brett Baddorf finished 25th and 29th respectively to lead the Bulldogs' men's team. Spear ran the 10K in 32:08. Baddorf had a time of 32:14. Freshmen Mark Rowe (33:17, 51st), Bryan Baddorf (33:20, 56th) and senior Micah Stansell (34:28, 82nd) rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs. Junior Jonathan Jeff (34:44) and sophomore Chad Johnson (35:11) also competed in the race for Samford. Samford compiled 243 team points. Alabama won the regional championship with 55 team points. The Crimson Tide was followed by Tennessee (84), Florida State (85), Georgia Tech (90), Florida (154), Georgia (168), Belmont (211), Chattanooga (213) and Georgia State (229). On the women's side, the Bulldogs were led by junior Erin Giesa who finished the 6K in 23:12 to place 61st of 141 runners. Abbey McGough (23:58, 79th), Suzanne Walker (24:04, 81st), Katuie Flewellyn (24:08, 84th) and Alice McGough (24:12, 87th) were the other Bulldogs scoring points. Leah Reed (24:15) also competed in the race. Samford totaled 392 points to finish ahead Tennessee Tech, Alabama, Florida A&M and Tennessee-Martin.
Georgia Tech captured the women's team title with 54 points. South Florida (102), Florida State (113), Belmont (140) and Vanderbilt (146) rounded out the top five.
