Mensen, Baddorf pace cross country at Pre-NCAA

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Samford sophomore Brittney Mensen finished 69th of 246 runners while Brett Baddorf finished 128th of 223 runners to lead the Bulldogs at the Pre-NCAA Meet hosted by Furman. The women's team finished 34th of 37 teams in the Women's Silver Race while the men took 29th of 37 teams in the Men's Black Race. The field included 22 of the top 35 men's teams and 26 of the top 35 women's teams.

Mensen's time of 22:28 was the best for the Samford's women in the 6K. Erin Giesa (24:16), Abbey McGough (24:32), Alice McGough (25:16), Leah Reed (25:23) and Jackie Sharpe (26:04) were the other Bulldogs scoring points.

Second ranked Stanford took the Women's Silver race compiling 72 points to edge out fourth-ranked BYU.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs had two runners finish in the top 150. Badddorf finished the 8K in 26:36. Teammate Andrew Spear (26:45) finished nine seconds behind him in 138th place. Freshman Bryan Baddorf ran the course in 26:57. Nic Cowan (27:18) and Micah Stansell (27:29) scored the remaining points for Samford. Chad Johnson (28:05) and Mark Rowe (28:31) also ran the course for the Bulldogs.

Second ranked Stanford also took the Men's Black Race. The Cardinal finished 38 points ahead of second place North Carolina State.

The Bulldogs have two weeks to get ready for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. The race will be run Oct. 27 in Atlanta. -SU-
