AUBURN, Ala. - The Samford cross country teams competed today (Oct. 11) at the Auburn Invitational in Auburn, Ala at the Indian Pines Course. The women's team took the event title with a final score of 36 points, while the men's team finished ninth overall with a total of 135 points.

ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE... The women's team dominated the 20 team field with sophomore Lauren Blankenship leading the Bulldogs to a 5K race victory. Blankenship finished second overall, after Auburn's Angela Homan, with a final time of 17:56.84.

Other top performances for Samford, junior Michelle Brewer, whom placed eighth overall with a time 18:42.55 and junior Brittney Mensen, whom finished 11th overall with a time of 18:50.51.

Also competing well for the Bulldogs, junior Jessica Brewer, whom finished 14th overall with a time of 18:55.15, while freshman Britney Almaguer finished 15th overall with a time of 18:58.10 and junior Connie Heiskell placed 21st overall with a time of 19:15.77.

For the women's 5K race, Auburn finished second, Mississippi State placed third and Alabama finished fourth.

ON THE MEN'S SIDE... Senior Bryan Baddorf was the top finisher for the Bulldogs in the men's 8K race. Baddorf placed 16th overall with a time of 25:46.34, while freshmen Michael Hanson finished 45th overall with a time of 26:33.07 and Drew Anderwald placed 50th overall with a time of 26:48.55.

Also competing for the Bulldogs, sophomore Scott Maurer, whom finished 66th overall with a time of 27:14.84, while senior Ricky McLain placed 77th overall with a time of 27:34.79 and sophomore Ben Whitaker finished 107th with a time of 28:15.57.

For the men's 8K race, Portland placed first, Auburn finished second and LSU placed third.

Cross Country will race at the Front Runner Invite hosted by the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga on Saturday, Oct. 16 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Event times are TBA.
