Cross Country finishes in top 15 at Auburn meet

AUBURN, Ala. - Sophomore Brittney Mensen continued to run well for the Bulldogs while freshman Mark Rowe and Brett Baddorf paced the Samford's men's team as the Bulldogs finished in the top 15 at the Auburn Invitational hosted by Auburn University Saturday morning. Samford's women's team finished 11th and the men's team ranked 13th. On the women's side, Samford finished behind Baylor, Florida State, Wichita State, Auburn, Belmont, Texas A&M, South Florida, Tennessee, Akron and LSU. Mensen ran the 5K in 17:34 to finish 25th of 241 runners. Erin Giesa had a time of 18:31 to finish 70th. Katie Flewellyn (18:54), Leah Reed (18:55), Suzanne Walker (18:58), Jackie Sharpe (19:08) and Ashley Broussard (19:34) all scored points for the Bulldogs.
Rowe led the men's team with a time of 25:43.53 to finish 38th in the 8K. Baddorf was right behind Rowe with a time of 25:43.98 to finish 39th of 253 runners. Andrew Spear was 67th with a time of 26:13 while Bryan Baddorf was 75th with a time of 26:18.16. Clay DeMore (26:36), Nic Cowan (26:39) and Micah Stansell (27:08) rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs. Samford's Chad Johnson (27:14), Matt Winstead (27:44) and Jonathan Jeff (27:46) also ran the course for the men's team.
The Bulldogs next meet will be Saturday at UAB. The team will run in the Pre-NCAA South Regional. |
