Bulldogs finish in top 20 at Great American
Sept. 21, 2001
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Samford women's team finished 11th out of 30 teams and the men's team finished 14th out of 31 teams at the Great American Shootout hosted by the Great American Sports Association at Winthrop University. Brittney Mensen finished 38th out of 300 runners to pace the women's team. Mensen ran the 5K in 18:16. Erin Giesa was the No. 2 runner for the Bulldogs. Giesa ran a time of 18:56 to finish 66th overall. On the men's side, senior Andrew Spear officially had the best time for the Bulldogs. His time of 26:01 was top for the Bulldogs in their 8K race. Mark Rowe finished just behind Spear with a time of 26:03. Brett Baddorf had the third best time for Samford by finishing in 26:30. According to Samford head coach Glenn McWaters, Baddorf's number wasn't pulled when he crossed the finish line so the Bulldogs will gain a couple of places when the times are recalculated. Unofficially, the men's team finished 12th.
The Bulldogs will have some time off before returning to action. Samford will run the Pre-NCAA South Regional on Oct. 6 at UAB.
