Cross Country Finishes Second At Florida State Intercollegiate Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Samford University cross country teams finished in second place at the Florida State Intercollegiate Championships on Saturday at Miccosukee Greenway in Tallahassee, Fla. The Bulldogs' top finishers were Brian Baddorf and Lauren Blankenship.

"I am very pleased with both teams' performances," said Samford head coach Glenn McWaters. "The men's team stepped it up and the women's team ran very well. It is good to see our teams perform well at this level."

In the men's 8K race, Florida State captured the event, finishing with 28 points. The Bulldogs placed second with 40 points. The top finisher for the Bulldogs was Baddorf placing third overall with a time of 25.47.

Also competing for Samford, Drew Anderwald placed ninth overall, Rickie McLain finished 16th overall, Michael Hanson placed 18th overall and Scott Maurer finished 22nd overall.

In the women's 5K race, Florida State captured the event, finishing with 30 points. The Bulldogs placed second with 33 points. For a consecutive week, Blankenship finished as the top performer for the Bulldogs as she placed third overall with a time of 18.03.

Also competing for Samford, Britney Almaguer placed sixth overall, Michelle Brewer finished seventh, Jessica Brewer placed eighth overall and Brittney Mensen finished in ninth place.

The Samford University cross country teams will compete at the University of Alabama Invitational on Friday, Sept 17. The men's race will begin at 5 p.m., while women's race will follow at 5:30 p.m.
