Samford Track Inks Local Athlete For 2008-09 Season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Hoover, Ala., native Patrick Wells signed with Samford track and field June 18 for the 2008-09 season. The Bulldog signee is a transfer from the University of Alabama and will start competing as a junior. At Alabama, Wells was a two year letter winner at Alabama and vaulted a best of 15'11. In high school, he was a two sport athlete at Spain Park, competing in basketball and track, and was coached by his father. "We are excited about Patrick joining the team," Samford head coach Rod Tiffin said. "He will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program. I feel he will be able to help lead our team into the new conference and takes our guys to a new level." Wells and the rest of the Bulldog squad will be a part of a new era under a new coaching staff headed by Tiffin and assisted by former Samford track athletes, Chad James and Lauren Blankenship.
