BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Samford University senior hurdler April Howell and sophomore pole vaulter Cameron Cardwell were named OVC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week following their performances at the 2006 Coach `O' Invitational, it was announced Tuesday by the league office. The Bulldogs claimed two of the four track and field weekly honors, which were awarded Tuesday.

Howell was awarded Female Track Athlete of the Week after she won the 100-meter hurdles in a school-record 14.06 at the Coach O' Invitational. Her time was 0.14 seconds off the NCAA regional qualifying mark and ranks first on the OVC best list this season. In addition, Howell also won the triple jump event with a leap of 39'08.05" to set a new Jesse H. Colley Track record.

Cardwell was named Female Field athlete of the week after winning the pole vault at the Coach O' Invitational with a school-record jump of 11'05.75." The mark also ranks first on the OVC best list this season and was a Jesse H. Colley Track record.

The Bulldogs return to action on April 5, when they head to Austin, Texas for the 79th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, hosted by the University of Texas.
