BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford University track and field team heads to Clemson, S.C., to compete in the Clemson Tiger Classic, its final meet before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, on Friday and Saturday, hosted at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex.

The meet kicks off on Friday at 4 p.m., and on Saturday at 9 a.m. In total, 34 schools are scheduled to participate in the meet, which will feature both men's and women's competition.

After breaking her own school record in the pole vault at the Rod McCravy Memorial, Cameron Cardwell returns to action on Friday when she'll attempt to better her height. Tracy Walz will also compete in the women's pole vault on Friday evening.

Lakeita Rox and Daphne Anderson will compete in preliminaries of both the 60-meter dash and the 60 meter hurdles on Friday. Amy Voorhies joins Rox and Anderson in the 60-meter dash, while Ciara Floyd will join the two in the 60-meter hurdles.

On the men's side, Justin Goetze will compete in the 60-meter dash preliminaries, while Michael Smith and James Steinberger will run the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries. Distance runner Bo Brawner will compete in the 5000-meter run for the first time this season. All three events are scheduled for Friday.

Friday's men's field events include the shot put, which Joshua Cutbirth is set to compete in, and the long jump, with Asa Ackerson, Bill Kirtland and Jermaine Livingston.

Additionally, both the men's and women's distance medley relay teams will compete on Friday.

Saturday's events are set to begin at 9 a.m., with Mark Holmes, Jon Londeen, and Steinberger competing in the Pole Vault. Holmes tied his own school record in the event at the Rod McCravy, and looks to break the record this week. Kirtland is also set to compete in the men's triple jump on Saturday morning, and Cutbirth is set to compete in the weight throw, while Ackerson will compete in the high jump that afternoon.

William Atwell will run the 400 meters, and Sean Rogers and Christopher Smith will run the 800 meters. Goetze and Michael Smith are set to run in the 200-meter dash.

Chris West is set to compete in the mile run, and Cameron Bean, Drew Anderwald, Ricky McLain and Joel Shaw will run the 3000 meters.

Laura Malnati and April Howell are set to open the day for the women, with Malnati competing in the high jump and Howell in the triple jump.

Kady Decker, Ashley Flowers and Mary Nunnally will run the 400 meters, and Katie Lantz will run in the 800 meters. Floyd, Rox and Voorhies will run the 200 meters.

Robyn DeBenedet will compete in the mile run, and Connie Heiskell, Michelle Brewer, Jessica Brewer and Katie Almand will all run the 3000 meters.

The day will conclude with the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay.
