KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Samford track and field teams competed in day one of the NCAA Regional hosted by the University of Tennessee on Friday.

April Howell set a Samford record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.72. The old record, also held by Howell was 13.81 set at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship earlier this season.

Michael Smith competed in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.5. Howell and Smith both failed to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

On Saturday, Howell will compete in the triple jump and Michelle Brewer will compete in the 3,000-meter steeple chase.
