ATLANTA, Ga. - Members of the Samford University track and field team took part in the first day of the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday night.

Samford's top finisher was Brittney Mensen, coming in 12th out of 24 in the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:09.78. Three Samford runners took part in the women's 1,500-meter run. Lauren Blankenship finished 32nd out of 49 in the event with a time of 4:37.49. Michelle Brewer came in 35th, finishing the event in 4:40.03, while Jenny Wottle came in 40th in the race with a time of 4:44.31.

The Georgia Tech Invitational, which is a last-chance meet for athletes to qualify for the NCAA Championships, will conclude on Saturday, with events beginning at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
