BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -

Brittney Mensen broke the school record in the 5000m for the Samford track and field team at the Samford Twilight, Saturday night. The Bulldogs competed against 13 other teams in hopes of improving times before the conference meet.

"This was a really good warm up meet before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships," Head coach Glenn McWaters said. "We had some really good performances tonight moving us up in the OVC standings."

Reigning OVC Female Athlete of the Week Jennifer Craig, won the 100m in a time of 11.95 and fourth in the 200m in a time of 25.00 for the Samford women. Mensen's record time of 17.47.02 in the 5000m was good for second place. Laura Malnati won the women's high jump with a height of 1.63m.

Bryan Baddorf won the men's 5000m race in a time of 14:52.61 for the Bulldogs, and Derek Simmons won the discus throw with a toss of 45.62m. Chad Johnson turned in another solid performance in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:24.50 for second place.
