Bulldogs Complete Day One At Sea Rays; Blankenship Qualifies For Regionals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ---- Samford distance runner Lauren Blankenship qualified for the NCAA South Regionals Friday afternoon in the 5000-meter race in the Bulldogs' first day of competition at the Sea Rays Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee. Blankenship won the race by a large margin with a time of 16:33.99, passing the standard qualifying time of 16:52.

Katherine Herring finished 27th in the women's mile with a time of 4:37.73. In the women's hurdle events, Lakeita Rox and Daphne Anderson finished 35th (15.04) and 38th (15.22), respectively, in the 100-meter hurdles while Morgan Tyler placed 41st in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.01.

Daphne Anderson took 26th in the women's 100-meter dash with a time 12.36.

In the women's field events, Cameron Cardwell placed ninth in the women's pole vault event with a height of 11'5.75". Morgan Tyler took 25th place in the triple jump with a distance of 32'2.25".

On the men's side, Will Denton placed 37th in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:55.28.

Samford will wrap up competition in the Sea Rays Relays Saturday. A recap of Saturday's events will be available on www.samfordsports.com at the conclusion of the last day of competition.
