Track and Field Has Solid Weekend at Spec Towns Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. - The Samford track and field team turned in another solid performance over the weekend at the Spec Towns Intercollegiate in Athens, Ga. The Bulldogs broke two school records and Lauren Blankenship won the women's 5000m run. For the Samford men, Bryan Baddorf finished third in the 5000m in a time of 14:56.64 and Ricky McLain finished ninth in 15:14.07. Chad Johnson placed third in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking a time of 9:22.03, Robert Weaver finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.73 meters and Trent Schmidt placed fourth in the pole vault breaking 4.70 meters. On the women's side, Blankenship broke the school record in her first place finish in the 5000m clocking 17:47.84. Brittney Mensen and Suzanne Walker finished second and fourth, respectively in the 5000m. Jennifer Craig placed fifth in the 100m, 12.06, and third in the 200m, 24.48. Jenny Wottle placed fifth in the 1500m, 4:46.52, followed by Michelle Brewer in sixth, 4:49.16. Jessica Brewer broke her own school record in the 3000m steeplechase placing second with a time 11:14.59.
The Bulldogs travel to Oxford, Miss., next weekend for the Ole Miss Invitational on April 17.
