TROY, Ala. - The Samford track and field team broke three school records and Chad Johnson won the mile run at the Troy State Invitational on Saturday, April 4. Johnson broke the school record in his victory in the mile, Lauren Blankenship broke the 3000m record and Jenny Wottle broke the women's mile mark

Jennifer Craig finished fourth in the 100m, 12.16, and third in the 200m, 24.37, to lead the Bulldogs in the sprint events. In the 400m, LaToya Cunningham finished sixth in a time of 58.59. In the mile, the Bulldogs occupied four of the top eight spots. Wottle finished fourth, 5:13.49, Jessica Brewer finished fifth, 5:13.73, Michelle Brewer finished sixth, 5:16.67, and Connie Heiskell finished eighth, 5:36.96. Blankenship's record run in the 3000m placed her fourth in a time of 10:16.61, while Laura Malnati finished fifth in the high jump with a height of 5-04.00.

On the men's side, Johnson's record time in the mile was 4:22.36, he was joined by teammates Patrick Weaver in eighth, 4:43.06, and Clay DeMore in ninth, 4:45.14. Bryan Baddorf finished sixth in the 3000m with a time of 8:43.34. In the field events, Eddie Mason finished fifth in the shot put with a distance of 47-00.00, Derek Simmons finished second in the discus with a distance of 150-11 and Trent Schmidt finished third in the pole vault with a height of 15-00.00.

 

 

Both teams will be in action this Saturday, April 10, at the Spec Town Invitational in Athens, Ga.
