Alabama Relays Day 3

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - At the Alabama Relays, Katie Flewellyn recorded her third Top-5 finish in the 1500 meters this season and Bryan Baddorf placed sixth in the 5000 meters to lead the Bulldogs on Day Three of the four-day competition. Flewellyn set a personal record in the 1500 meters, posting a time of 4:38.89 for her fifth-place finish. Her previous best was 4:42 set in 1999. Team Co-Captains Alice and Abbey McGough also ran in the 1500, Alice with a time of 4:58.39 and Abbey at 5:02.42. In the 800 meters, Leah Reed also set a personal record with a time of 2:14.25 to finish ninth out of 64 runners. Reed's previous best was a time of 2:16.50 set in 2000. Jackie Sharpe also ran the 800 in 2:27.07 and Kristin Timm finished with a time of 2:31.96. In the women's 200 meter dash, LaToya Cunningham finished 20th with a personal record time of 25.22. In the 100 meter hurdles, Angela Smith finished 53rd with a time of 17.12. Also in the 400 meters hurdles, Stephanie Flarity posted a time of 1:09.29. In the 3000 meters, Brittney Mensen ran unattached and posted a time of 10:32.18 to place 11th. Erin Giesa finished 26th with a time of 10:55.10. In field events, Lauren Cole high-jumped a mark of 5'01.00". For the men, Bryan Baddorf placed highest in the Bulldogs' distance running for the second straight day. He placed sixth in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:07.58. Baddorf won the 10,000 meters in Day 2 of the Relays on March 22.
Chad Johnson set a personal best in the 3000-meter steeplechase, posting a time of 9:33.51 for a ninth-place finish. He set his previous best in the last meet, a time of 9:35.59 at Auburn on March 16. Jonathan Jeff ran the steeple in 10:20.66.
In the 800 meters, Paul von Herrmann recorded his third Top-15 finish of the season with a time of 1:54.44. Donnie Smith also ran the 800 with a time of 2:00.81. In the 400 meter hurdles, David Henson recorded his third Top-20 finish, posting a 55.34 to finish 19th in the 55 member field. In sprints, freshman Nathan Russell ran the 100 meters in 11.41 and the 200 meters in 22.99. James Drake finished 55th in the 400 meters with a time of 51.28. Daniel Balena was Samford's lone representative in field events on Day 3, recording a distance of 161'06.00" in the javelin. |
