Track Rounds Out Alabama Relays On A Good Note

March 30, 2008

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ---- The Samford track and field team finished out the final day of the Alabama Relays Sunday with several outstanding performances. The women finished third while the men's teams at the event were not ranked.

Ashley Flowers led things off for Samford, running a lifetime best of 56.68 in the 400-meter dash. Sarah McGough also participated in that race, finishing 24th with a time of 1:00.96.

Another great highlight for the Samford women was Hillary Neal's outstanding performances in the relays. Neal anchored both the 4x800-meters relay and the distance medley relays. She ran the fastest 800 ever for Samford with a time of 2:10.09 which would have been a new school record has it been an open race. The women placed fourth in that event with a time 9:14.98.

Neal also led the women to a first place finish in the distance medley relay. She anchored the 1500 in a time of 4:53 which would have also been a new school record had the event been an open race.

Samford's performances in the sprint medley relay continued to add points to the Bulldog's score. The women finished sixth in the event with a time of 4:22.41.

In the women's field events, Jessica Lucas had a personal best in the javelin with throw of 113'10" earning 11th place while Mary Barron placed seventh in the pole vault with a height of 10'6". Morgan Tyler also placed seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 38'3".

Steady performances from the men helped the Bulldogs have a great last day. The men finished fourth in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 7:49.79 and the 4x1500-meter with a time of 16:58.67. They also finished fifth in the sprint medley and fourth in the distance medley. Kyle Brown also placed 14th in the shot put with a throw of 39'7".
