Samford Track Wraps Up Competition At Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ---- The Samford track and field team wrapped up competition Sunday at the Alabama Relays held at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium on the campus of the University of Alabama. The Bulldogs competed in the bulk of the events on Saturday and Sunday, and came out with the most success in the relays on the last day. On the women's side, Samford came in fifth in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:42.18, seventh (4:16.14) in the 1600 sprint medley, third (19:24.29) in the 4x1500 relay, and took the top spot in the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:14.25. The Samford men also came in third in the 4x1500 relay with a time of 16:27.12 and the 4x800 relay with a time of 7:51.27. They also ran 10:35.63 to come in fourth in the distance medley. In Sunday's field events, Jessica Lucas placed tenth in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 109'3". Morgan Tyler came in 17th in the women's triple jump at 35'8.75", while Chris Davis came in 16th in the men's shot put with a throw of 41'5.25". On Saturday, Cameron Bean ran a time of 15:43.42 in the finals of the men's 5K to finish 11th while Chas Keithan finished sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:06.39. Michael Smith ran a 53.48 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish sixth. Freshman Bulldog Morgan Tyler ran the women's 400-meter hurdles at 1:04.68 in the finals to finish 13th. In the women's field events, Cameron Cardwell vaulted 11'5.75" in the pole vault to finish in a three-way tie at seventh. On Friday, Samford distance runner Lauren Pilcher ran her first collegiate 10K finished sixth with a time of 40:42.37.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Saturday, March 31, as they participate in the Troy Invitational hosted by Troy University. |
