Bulldogs Set Two School Records at Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, AL- At the 2002 Alabama Relays, Samford's Josh Jones set a school and career record with 6,275 points in the decathlon and finished seventh in the field of 15. Bulldog freshman Bryan Baddorf, running in his first collegiate 10000 Meters, won the race and set another school best with a time of 31:16.98.

Jones, a senior from Ethel, La., broke the previous mark of 5,977, which he set in 2000. He had already recorded a personal record of 51.29 in the 400 Meters on Thursday, and moved from ninth position to seventh in the last five events on Friday.

Baddorf, a freshman from Germantown, Tenn., paced a trio of Bulldogs in the 10000 Meters. Senior Andrew Spear finished third behind Baddorf with a personal best of 31:22.67, which also bettered the previous school best of 31:40.95 set by Dwight Thomas in 1999. Freshman Mark Rowe was 23rd with a time of 33:32.41.

Freshman Paul Teinert, competing in his first decathlon, improved from 11th to 10th and finished with 5,811 points.

Jones' full tally of marks were as follows: 100 meters - 11.88, Long Jump - 21'04", Shot Put - 35'06", High Jump - 5'10.75", 400 Meters - 51.29, 110 Hurdles - 17.20, Discus - 115'03.00", Pole Vault - 13'05.25", Javelin - 152'06.00", 1500 Meters - 4:47.70.

Teinert's marks were as follows: 100 Meters - 11.83, Long Jump - 20'09", Shot Put - 36'03.50", High Jump - 5-10.75", 400 Meters - 54.50, 110 Hurdles - 16.56, Discus - 93'10.00", Pole Vault - 12'05.50", Javelin - 152'05.00", 1500 Meters - 5:16.59.

Saturday's schedule begins with the men's hammer throw at 9 a.m. and includes a full day of running events, concluding with the men's 400 meters at 5:15 p.m. Sunday's lineup includes conclusion of field events and a full complement of relays.
