Samford Duo Through First Half of Decathlon

TUSCALOOSA, AL- Samford's Josh Jones is in ninth place and Paul Teinert in 11th with the first half of the decathlon complete at the 2002 Alabama Relays.

Defending Alabama Relays decathlon champion Jimmy Watts, who is unattached, leads the field with a total of 3,826 points.

Jones currently sits in third place with 3,290 points and Teinert, in his first decathlon, is 11th with 3,137. Jones' marks on Thursday included 11.88 in the 100 meters, 21'04" in the long jump, 35'06" in the shot put, 5'10.75" in the high jump and 51.29 in the 400 meters.

Teinert's marks were 11.83 in the 100 meters, 20'09" in the long jump, 36'03.50" in the shot put, 5-10.75" in the high jump and 54.50 in the 400 meters.

The event will conclude tomorrow beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the 110m hurdles followed by the discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m run. The conclusion of the decathlon will be followed by the women's 10k at 5:00 p.m. and the men's 10k at 5:40 p.m.
