Track And Field Turns In Seven Top-Ten Finishes At Alabama Relays
March 18, 2006 TUSCALOOSA, Ala.---- The Samford University track and field team ended day three of the Alabama Relays with seven top-10 finishes on Saturday, at the Sam Bailey Track on the University of Alabama campus. Michael Smith placed second in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 52.98. The finish was the highest for the Bulldogs on the day. Robyn DeBenedet finished third in the 1500 meters with a personal best time of 4:36.16. Mark Holmes also turned in a third-place finish in the pole vault, with a vault of 15'01''. "We were very pleased with Michael, Robyn and Mark's performances today," said Samford head coach Glenn McWaters. "Everyone did very well, in general. We're looking forward to coming back tomorrow to run the relays, then we're going to take some time off for spring break and get ready for our next meet." Michael Hanson turned in a sixth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 9:49.43. In the men's 5000 meters, Ricky McLain finished seventh, posting a time of 15:21.74. Chris West finished eighth overall in the men's 1500 meters, with a time of 4:03.69. Additionally, Connie Heiskell ran an 18:35.51 in the women's 5000 meters to finish 10th. The Alabama Relays conclude on Sunday at the Sam Bailey Track on the University of Alabama campus. Live results will be posted on www.cfpitiming.com.
