Track And Field Wins Five Events On Day Two Of Snowbird Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's and women's track and field teams posted wins in five events on the final day of the FSU Snowbird Invitational, hosted by Florida State on Saturday. "Our first outdoor meet of the season went very well," Samford head coach Glenn McWaters said. "I am really pleased with the way our teams performed." For the women's team, April Howell won two events on the day. She won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.33, and she was the winner in the triple jump with a distance of 39'07". Lauren Blankenship won the 1,500-meter run, running the event in 4:36.89. On the men's side, Michael Hanson posted a win in the 3,000-meter steeple chase with a time of 9:53.18, while Michael Smith won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.91. Behind Blankenship in the 1,500-meter run, Britney Almaguer finished third with a time of 4:39.80, while Robyn DeBenedet came in fourth, finishing the race in 4:40.91. Jessica Brewer finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.79, and Katie Lantz finished sixth in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.86. Mary Nunnally finished fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.64, while Laura Malnati came in third in the high jump with a jump of 5'2.25".
Along with his win in the 400-meter hurdles, Smith came in fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.12. Patrick Weaver came in fifth in the 800-meter run, running the event in 1:54.92. Robert Weaver came in fifth in the men's high jump with a height of 6'4.75". The track and field teams will next compete in the Samford Invitational on Saturday, March 12. |
