JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Samford track and field team placed 13 individuals and one relay team fifth or better in their events at the Masters Inn/JU Invitational at the Ashley Sports Complex last weekend.

Shana Ely won the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:18.14 to pace the women, while several men performed extremely well. Derrick Moore won the 110 Meter High Hurdles with a time of 14.64, David Henson won the 400 Meter Intermediate Hurdles with a time of 54.79 and Chad Johnson won the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 10:12.02.

Clay DeMore and Andrew Spear finished second and third respectively in the Steeplechase behind Johnson, DeMore running 10:33.84 and Spear a time of 10:36.26.

Samford's men also placed second in the 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of 3:24.70.

The women's results include other notables. Tara Bourque finished third in the 1,500 Meter Run with a time of 4:43.39. Lauren Cole and Ashley Golden finished second and third in the High Jump, Cole with eight points and Golden with six points at the 1.63 m height.

Heidi Sauers also finished third in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.59m.
