CHARLESTON, Ill. - Samford track and field competed at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend and both the men and women placed fifth. Jennifer Craig is the OVC Champion in the 60m while Bryan Baddorf finished second in the 5000m race and April Howell finished second in the 60m hurdles.

"We finished right about where I thought we would," Head coach Glenn McWaters said. "We had some people step up and perform better than I thought they would, but we also had some who did not do as well as we would have liked. However, we use the indoor season to gear up for the outdoor season and hopefully we will come out strong for that."

The women's distance relay team finished second in a time of 12:17.88. Michelle Brewer finished fifth in the 5000m with a time of 18:34.09. Craig also finished fourth in the 200m run. LaToya Cunningham finished fifth in the 400m, while Jessica Brewer finished sixth in the mile. Howell also finished fifth in the triple-jump with a school record 37'07.25.

For the men, Baddorf's second-place finish of 15:15.84 in the 5000m highlighted Friday's events, he also finished fourth in the 3000m on Saturday. Pete Fox finished fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 46'07.50" and Ricky McLain placed eighth in the 5000m in a time of 15:43.18.

The Bulldogs begin the outdoor season March 18 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Alabama Relays. Samford will host the 2004 OVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 7-8 at Seibert Stadium.
