CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Samford University track and field teams competed in day one of the 2005 OVC Championships, hosted by Eastern Illinois. Winning her first- collegiate crown, freshman Britney Almaguer won the 5000-meter run with a Samford all-time record time of 17:54.

Breaking Samford all-time records, Pete Fox broke the record in the weight throw with a toss of 48.11 for fifth place, while Laura Malnati finished fourth overall in the high jump and tied her current Samford all-time record.

On the women's side, the Samford women's distance medley team (Connie Heiskell, Mary Nunnally, Jessica Brewer and Michelle Brewer) finished second overall with a time of 12:17.

On the men's side, the Samford men's distance medley team (Sean Rogers, Austin Walker, Christopher Smith and Drew Anderwald) finished fifth overall with a time of 10:38, while in the 5000-meter run Bryan Baddorf finished fifth with a time of 15:19 and Michael Hanson finished 10th with a time of 15:37.

The Bulldogs will continue in OVC Championship competition on tomorrow (Feb. 26) at Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Ill. Competition will begin at 9 a.m. CST.
