CLEMSON, S.C. ---- The Samford University track and field completed day one of the Clemson Tiger Classic hosted by Clemson University on Friday. The Bulldogs capped off the first day of competition with two top-five finishes and Michael Smith qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles.

"Michael Smith did really well to qualify for the finals," said Samford head coach Glenn McWaters. "I'm looking forward to seeing what he does tomorrow."

Smith ran a time of 8.38 to advance to the finals of the event. In the field of 23, Smith was ninth overall and sixth among collegiate athletes, as three unattached athletes finished ahead of him.

Both the men's and women's distance medley relay teams finished fourth overall. The women's team of Michelle Brewer, Kady Decker, Robyn DeBenedet and Britney Almaguer ran a time of 12:41.25, while the men's team of Chris West, Michael Smith, Sean Rogers and Drew Anderwald ran a time of 10:44.41.

In the women's pole vault, Cameron Cardwell reached a height of 10'6'' to tie for 11th place. Additionally, Bo Brawner finished sixth overall in the men's 5000-meter run, with a time of 15:55.69.

The Clemson Tiger Classic concludes on Saturday in Clemson, S.C. Events are set to begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. Final results will be posted at www.samfordsports.com.
