CARBONDALE, Ill. ---- The Samford track and field team turned out several outstanding performances in the Southern Illinois Saluki Booster Invitational this weekend. The Bulldogs posted 15 top 10 performances in the two-day indoor meet.

In the track events, junior Bulldogs Katherine Herring and Robyn DeBenedet place third and fifth, respectively, in the women's mile run. Herring posted a time of 5:08, while DeBenedet finished just behind her at 5:11. In the men's mile run, freshman Blaise Carie came in sixth place with a time of 4:20.

In the men's 60-meter hurdles, junior Michael Smith grabbed fourth place with a time of 8.42. Two Samford women took spots in the top 10 as Ciara Floyd (9.25) placed fifth and Daphne Anderson (9.27) took sixth.

Junior Drew Anderwald and sophomore Cameron Bean both were top 10 finishers in the men's 3,000-meter race. Anderwald placed fourth with a time of 8:45, while Bean took ninth at 8:54. Sophomore Britney Almaguer took third place in the women's 3,000-meter race, finishing at 10:42. Freshman William Denton took third place in the men's 800-meter race with a time of 1:57.2.

 

 

In the 4 x 400-meter relays, the Samford women took fifth place at 4:03, while the men took ninth at 3:30.

In the field events, Freshman Morgan Tyler placed sixth in the women's triple jump, with a distance of 37'2". Erik Peterson took ninth place in the men's high jump at 6'2", and Cameron Cardwell took second place in the pole vault, Samford's highest placement of the two-day competition, with a height of 10'11.75.

The Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend, Jan. 26 and 27, as they travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to participate in the Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State University.
