Position:
Assistant Coach (Distance)

Lori Strand is in her first year as an assistant coach for the Samford cross country and track and field teams. The former UAB distance standout lens her expertise to the Bulldog distance program.

"I am really happy to be adding Lori Strand to our staff here at Samford," Tiffin said. "Her name is synonymous with running in the Birmingham community. I feel that she will not only bring a vast knowledge about running and competition to the table, she will also bring stability to our program. She is grounded into the community and is excited about Samford being a new part of her family. I know with her help we can continue my vision of the Samford Cross Country and Track and field program."

Strand, an Anniston, Ala. native, moved to Birmingham in 1995 to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She graduated from UAB in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and ran competitively for the Blazers' cross country and track and field teams during her years there.

Previously, Strand was the assistant men's and women's cross country and track and field coach at Birmingham-Southern College in 2004. In 2005, she took a position as the head boys and girls at Shades Mountain Christian School and held that position for two years.

"After staying at home with my children for two years, I am excited to begin coaching again, and feel very fortunate to be coaching at Samford University," Strand said. "The Samford community has given me a warm welcome and I am thrilled about opportunity to work with such a talented group of athletes."

Strand lives in Hoover with her husband Scott and their two boys, Ethan and Henry.
