2003-2004 Samford University Cheerleading Program Summary

2003-2004 Samford University Cheerleading Participant Contract

Purpose

To promote support of Samford athletics and to be representatives of the quality of program nurtured at Samford University.

Composition

The 2003-2004 Samford University Cheerleading program will consist of one co-ed varsity squad comprised of up to 16 members. A junior varsity squad may be chosen in the fall of 2003 at the discretion of the Cheerleading Coach.

Requirements for Eligibility

To be eligible to tryout for a Samford squad, one must be a current full-time Samford University student or an incoming freshman/transfer, who has received acceptance to the University prior to tryouts. All candidates must have a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA to be eligible.

Tryout Process

Tryouts for all candidates will be held April 17-19, 2003. Tryouts will consist of demonstration of various cheerleading skills including, but not restricted to the following:

,,h,,, Partner Stunting: Toss Shoulder Stand, Toss Hands Lib, Walk-in Stunt and one optional stunt.

,,h,,, Tumbling: Minimum of standing back handspring and running series.

,,h,,, Cheer: To assess sharpness and accuracy of motions, expression and voice.

,,h,,, Jump: Toe touch

Candidates will also be required to participate in an interview.

All positions are open. Cheerleaders from the previous year must tryout again and are in no way guaranteed a position.

All candidates must provide proof of insurance, sign a liability waiver and pay the non-refundable tryout fee ($20) prior to tryouts.

All members chosen must participate in a physical arranged through the Samford University Athletic Training Department.

The decision of the Cheerleading Coach on the new members for the 2003-2004 squad is final.

Responsibilities and Requirements

,,h,,, All cheerleaders must adhere to the instructions of the cheerleading coach, as well as the following responsibilities and requirements for the duration of their term (April to April).

,,h,,, All cheerleaders are required to obtain $250.00 in sponsorships. This money is due upon return to campus for pre-season.

All cheerleaders are required to maintain a conditioning program from tryouts through the end of their installment as prescribed by the cheerleading coach and the strength and conditioning coach. Members of the squad should be in good physical shape at all times in order to safely and effectively perform all that cheerleading requires.

,,h,,, All cheerleaders are required to return to campus as instructed prior to the start of classes for camp, practice and clinics. (Tentatively August 11, 2003) Responsibilities and Requirements (continued)

,,h,,, All cheerleaders are required to cheer at all home football and men's and women's basketball games, as well as any away games or tournaments as instructed by the cheerleading coach.

,,h,,, All cheerleaders are required to attend (on time) all practices, workouts, camps, clinics, competitions, fundraising events and games as instructed by the cheerleading coach. Each cheerleader is responsible for arranging his/her schedule in order to do so.

,,h,,, All cheerleaders are responsible for maintaining a minimum of a 2.0 GPA. All incoming freshmen are required to attend study hall as instructed by the cheerleading coach. Any cheerleader whom the cheerleading coach feels is in academic trouble will be required to attend study hall.

The Samford Cheerleading program offers the following for the 2003-2004 cheerleading squad: ,,h,,, Use of the varsity weight room ,,h,,, Travel Cost (meals, transportation and housing when applicable) ,,h,,, Varsity Letter (1st complete year) Varsity Letter Jacket (2nd complete year) Varsity Blanket (3rd complete year) Varsity Watch (4th complete year) ,,h,,, Free game tickets for parents. (May not apply to tournaments)

Scholarships

Book Scholarships will be awarded to the Varsity squad members.

Behavior

Samford University cheerleaders are expected and required to behave at all times in a manner representative of the traditions of the University. Any other behavior will not be tolerated.

I agree to adhere to these policies throughout my term as a Samford University Cheerleader.
