The mission of the Department of Athletics is to uphold the mission of Samford University within the context of a continually improving, competitive, diverse and NCAA-certified athletics program.
The mission of the Department of Athletics is designed to support the mission of Samford University.
We will:

Effectively combine the athletic experience with academic, spiritual and social experiences by encouraging student-athletes to become involved in all aspects of campus life and excel in academic pursuits. We will provide opportunities and resources which develop personal empowerment, academic and career competency, social and civic responsibility and ethical and spiritual strength.
Assume a leadership role in influencing a positive perception of intercollegiate athletics by combining the positives of athletics and academics to form strong relationships in a Christian community. We will offer opportunities to involve campus constituents in departmental activities, nurturing relationships across campus that improve the effectiveness of the community.
Justify the university's commitment to athletics with a positive return on that investment by putting forth a competitive, well-respected athletics program that exhibits social and civic responsibility as well as ethical and spiritual strength. We will also graduate student-athletes who become ambassadors for Samford University as they model career competency and social and civic responsibility.
Position ourselves at the forefront among university constituents to develop and encourage diversity by recruiting student-athletes and staff from diverse backgrounds.
