Chris Scott was named assistant director of ­athletics for academic services in April 2004. He joined Samford as director of academic enhancement in June 2001.

He oversees Samford's Academic Enhancement Program [AEP], which provides guidance, personal attention and aca­demic skills enhancement to student-athletes through academic advising, counseling and tutorial assistance. He also assists in NCAA compliance.

Scott serves as Samford's chapter ­adviser of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Student-Athlete Honor Society. He is a Samford S.U.ccess program staff mentor, academic adviser for students with undeclared majors and oversees the university's CHAMPS/ Life Skills Athletics Advisory Board.

Scott also serves as a liaison between the academic and athletic community concerning the interests of Samford student-athletes, and he is a members of the university's Staff Advisory Council.

Before joining the athletics department full-time, Scott served as a graduate assistant for Senior Associate Director of Athletics Peter Neuberger for three years. He assisted in academic advising, ­student-staff mentoring, compliance and game-day operations. He also served one semester as an intern in the Samford Department of Counseling Services.

Before coming to Samford, Scott worked as the lead high school sports writer for The Pensacola News Journal in Pensacola, Fla., for three years. He was respon­sible for 19 high school athletics teams in the Florida panhandle area and covered four high school state championship teams.

Scott completed a master of education degree from the University of Montevallo in spring 2001 and is a 1994 graduate of the University of Alabama with a B.A. in ­communication.

The Fairfield, Ala,, native ­is married to the former Regina Ruffin of Athens, Ala.
