Joey Mullins begins his seventh year in the Samford sports information department, and his sixth as the sports information director. He oversees the day-to-day operations of the office and is the primary contact for football, women's basketball and baseball. Mullins, a native of Headland, Ala., and a 1999 graduate of Troy State University, worked as the assistant sports information director at Samford in the 2003-04 school year before being promoted to his current position. Prior to coming to Samford in August of 2003, Mullins spent two years as assistant sports information director at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. from August 2001 until July of 2003. At Liberty, Mullins served as the primary contact for the women's basketball, baseball, men's and women's soccer and golf teams. He worked with the 2002-03 women's basketball team that won the Big South Conference and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Before working at Liberty, Mullins served as an intern in the sports information offices at Wake Forest University (1999-00) and the University of Florida (2000-01). At Wake Forest, he was the contact for the baseball, men's soccer, field hockey and men's and women's tennis teams. Mullins also served as the media director for several ACC and NCAA events at Wake Forest. While at Florida, he was the contact for the women's golf and men's swimming and diving teams. His swimming and diving media guide was judged second in the nation by the College Sports Information Directors of America [CoSIDA], while his women's golf guide placed fifth in the nation. Mullins is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA). |
