  Larry Long

Larry Long

Player Profile

Position:
Executive Director, Athletic Foundation

Larry Long enters his second year as a member of the Samford athletics staff. He is in charge of fund-raising efforts for all areas of the athletics department.

Long has already made a major impact on Samford athletics. He has headed up several fund-raising campaigns, including raising funds for a new football field house, which Samford is scheduled to break ground on this summer.

He has also overseen the restructuring of the Bulldog Club, the new annual giving program for Samford athletics.

Long worked for the Buffalo Rock Company from January 2000 through June 2007 in different capacities from Tournament Director for the PGA Champions Event the Blue Angels Classic, and the Boeing Championship at Sandestin. He also served in the corporate office in Birmingham as the Director of Business Development for outside bottlers.

Long worked at Auburn University from 1985 to 2000. While there, he served as the placement director and director of ­athletic development.

His duties at Auburn included responsibility for all fund-raising for athletics, the ticket ­priority system, sales and operation of 78 executive suites, scholarship donors, and the Greater Auburn Fund. He was also in charge of the development of Tigers Unlimited and its Athletic Council.

From 1980 to 1985, Long worked at Blount International, Ltd., as an employment manager. During his time there, Blount International was rated in the top 30 ­engineering, design and construction firms in the world.

Long coached high school football and basketball in the state of Alabama from 1971 to 1980.

He received his bachelor's degree in ­education from Montevallo in 1971. He earned a master of science in education degree from Troy University in 1976.
