Samford SAAC Sponsors Student-Athlete Convocation

Oct. 9, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored a student-athlete convocation Thursday morning at the Pete Hanna Center. Scott Pilkington was the featured speaker at the convocation.

Samford director of athletics Bob Roller welcomed the student-athletes to open the convocation. SAAC representatives Valerie Kikkert (soccer) and Kyle Nichols (baseball) then gave the group an update on SAAC business.

Samford president Dr. Andrew Westmoreland then addressed the group before Pilkington spoke for about 45 minutes.

Pilkington has served as pastor at New Life Church of God in Orlando, Fla., for 13 years. Pilkington, a graduate of Union University, served at his first church in Fort Myers, Fla., from 1993 to 1995. He became senior pastor at New Life on Oct. 22, 1995.

Pilkington, who is currently working on his Master's Degree at Asbury Theological School, has also been a national speaker for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for more than 17 years.

Pilkington and his wife Lorrie have been married for 15 years and have two sons, Jordan (13) and Joshua (11).
