July 9, 2008 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Katie Walden has been named assistant sports information director at Samford University. Walden assists in the day-to-day operation of the sports information office. She has served the last two years as the sports information intern at Samford. In her previous role, she served as the media contact for volleyball, cross country, track and field, golf and tennis. She worked with the 2008 men's and women's tennis teams that won the Ohio Valley Conference Championship and participated in the NCAA Championships. Walden also assisted in the coverage of football, men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball while serving as the intern. Prior to coming to Samford, Walden worked as a student assistant in the Mississippi State media relations office from August 2004 to May 2006. At MSU, she assisted at various athletic events, and with office work as well. While a student at Mississippi State, Walden served as a media relations assistant at the 2005 SEC Football Championship Game, 2006 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament and 2006 SEC Baseball Tournament. She also assisted at the 2004 SEC Basketball Media Days. In the summer of 2004, Walden worked as a media relations intern at Baptist Health Systems in her hometown of Jackson, Miss. In the summer of 2003, she worked as a news intern for WAPT Channel 16 News in Jackson. Walden earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in communication with an emphasis in broadcasting and a minor in public relations from Mississippi State in May 2005. She also earned her Master of Science degree from MSU in sports administration in December 2006. |
